Importance of Local Community Involvement and Support

There are countless ways to market your own business, but very few are as rewarding and cost effective as community involvement.

Community involvement is often pushed aside or placed on the backburner, usually in order to make time for more direct marketing.  Community outreach should not take the place of these marketing strategies, but this article is your reminder of the benefits of giving back and the importance of incorporating such activities into your marketing plan.  Not only will this diversify your potential customer outreach, but also create a better image for your brand.

So how do we fit community activities in with minimal extra time?

Start by attending community events; even if it’s just a one day activity.  Attend a fundraiser, sign up for a walk for a nonprofit or maybe just help out at a homeless shelter.  Participating in these activities is rewarding and will help network out of your habitual circle of contacts.

When you are ready to try and incorporate community involvement into your regular routine, try joining a board or become a member of a community group. Meetings are usually only once a month and will not overload you with responsibilities, plus you can start developing relationships with other members of the community.

If you are ready to take it to super community member status, try sponsoring an event where proceeds go to a local philanthropy or nonprofit.  Your company could receive great media exposure for this if done correctly and it will give you the opportunity to invite people including media and potential clients that you have been wanting to connect with.  It's an amazing feeling to sponsor or offer something for the community and good deeds build good business.
