JUNE

This year's county fair, taking place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds June 10 through July 4th, celebrates the automobile by showcasing autos from decades past, to the newest models on the market. Fair-goers will find all of the traditionally loved activities as well, including rides, animals, midway games and fair food.

Balboa Park's Old Globe Theater will be hosting its yearly Shakespeare festival, presenting multiple showings of "Much Ado About Nothing," "The Tempest," and "Amadeus" between May 29th and September 25th, giving us all a poetic license to last the summer long.

Held June 4th in the beautiful San Diego Botanic Garden, this consistently sold-out wine festival is an opportunity to sample wines and fine beverages from around the world, while tasting the specialty desserts and dishes of local restaurants.
JULY
Del Mar Racetrack Opening Day // www.dmtc.com
July 20th marks the opening of Del Mar's Thoroughbred racing season. The event is traditionally celebrated with big hats, fancy dresses, and of course, some of the most thrilling competition that West coast horse racing has to offer.
Comic-Con International San Diego 2011 // www.comic-con.org
One of the largest yearly events for the San Diego Convention Center, Comic-Con International comes to San Diego from July 21st to 24th and brings with it some of the most entertaining oddities, special guests, and a host of comic characters brought to life by crowds of costumed fans.
US Open Sandcastle Competition // www.usopensandcastle.com
As children, we couldn't get enough of building sandcastles, and as adults...we still can't! The U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition is an absolute must-see of elaborate and enormous artistic designs. The festival begins July 22rd at Imperial Beach, with the competition held Sunday, July 24th.
AUGUST
CityFest 2011
This annual event, taking place August 14th from noon to 8pm, brings more than 250 vendors of food, art, and interesting trinkets to the streets of Hillcrest. Featuring a grand stage and beer garden, CityFest 2011 is a major street fair that offers something for everyone.

La Jolla is full of places to explore, from the beautiful shores and caves to the varied marine life. Take a day during the month of August to rent a kayak and paddle around the coastline to your heart's content.
Snorkeling With Sharks // www.aquarium.ucsd.edu
The Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography runs a special program on August 6th and 20th that allows visitors a chance to learn about marine ecology while snorkeling among the marine life, including La Jolla's harmless leopard sharks.
