Lips San Diego

As we enter October, and most retail stores in America, we are reminded of a holiday where people take on an alternate personality—where guys and gals alike dress up as someone new, something different, and take on a persona that is completely out of the ordinary. Although that day is fast approaching, if you're in San Diego, you can experience the playful environment of "dress up" right now at Lips!

Tucked in the corner of El Cajon Boulevard & Ohio Street, dressing up happens 6 days a week, almost every week of the year; and yet, don't expect frightening, because here, it's all about fabulous. Goblins, ghouls and witches? No, you're getting glamour, gals, and… well, it rhymes with witches. It's a place where no moment is a drag, and every performer is one. Lips San Diego is providing the city with some of the best tricks and treats its ever seen.

Founded on the idea of dinner theatre, Lips was established by Mark Zscheiche and Michael Pacca. In 1996, the duo opened the first Lips in New York City where the concept was to provide guests with dinner and a show with an outrageously tongue-in-cheek twist: the servers shared a scandalous secret and the performers displayed playful pandemonium. After the success of this flagship location, Zschieche took this brand to the West Coast in 1999 and opened a second location in San Diego.

Today, nearly twelve years later, Lips is settled in North Park and continues to house some of the most unforgettable performances, as well as a few moments you'll most likely want to forget. With renowned drag performers taking the stage and serving the guests, Lips San Diego has become the hot spot for friends and family to gather, eat, drink, and be entertained. Open Tuesday through Sunday, Lips offers a variety of shows from a Wednesday "Bitchy Bingo" to a Thursday "Dining with the Divas" celebrity impersonation night, to the ever popular "Gospel Brunch" on Sunday afternoons. Whether you're a lady about to wed the man of your dreams, or celebrating a new age, the venue offers special experiences for bachelorette and birthday parties.

And while this place is packed with entertainment, it still pays serious attention to dining. With many dishes developed for varying tastes, and a fully stocked bar for the thirstiest of guests, Lips ensures that comedy is best enjoyed with a satisfying meal and a finely-crafted cocktail.

Ready to take on a bigger spotlight, in early July 2012, Lips turned to Alternative Strategies for PR, design, and social media assistance. Knowing all too well about entertainment and dining, Alternative Strategies worked closely with General Manager Brent Smithson to coordinate a Cox media buy that included designing banner ads for online promotions, as well as assisting in a television commercial to run locally on Bravo and Logo's channels. Additionally, Alternative Strategies placed themselves in the role of those diva performers to provide Lips with social media efforts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In the midst of these ongoing efforts, the design department at Alternative Strategies implemented new graphics for each social media account, using more sparkle, glitz, and pink than ever before.

Only a few months into a working relationship, Lips and Alternative Strategies are already in the first stages of something BIG to come. And unlike the performers who conceal a secret under their glamorous outfits, there's a truth to Lips San Diego that's well-known and widely accepted: it's the ultimate in drag dining.
