Johan Engman is no filmmaker, but he sure knows the recipe for the perfect trilogy. The founder/co-owner of Fig Tree Cafe, Engman recently opened the third installation of the Fig Tree family in Liberty Station. In the case of Fig Tree, the third time was the charm. Liberty Station had arguably the biggest opening in this restaurant family's history. "We were thinking that the 'soft opening' would be soft, but it was slammed from day one," says Engman of his latest project.

Since opening its doors on August 27th, the Liberty Station location has been busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Executive Chef/co-owner Chef Alberto Morreale brought in signature menu items from the other locations and will slowly integrate soon-to-be-favorites, unique to the Liberty Station restaurant. With no signs of slowing down, Fig Tree Liberty Station promises to be a new staple in the former Naval Training Center.

The original Fig Tree Cafe opened in Pacific Beach in the fall of 2008, with a simple mission rooted in the creation of an inviting and genuine dining experience. Shortly thereafter, Fig Tree Cafe opened another location in Hillcrest at 416 University Avenue. Each location has been uniquely designed to fit their surrounding neighborhood. Engman says, "We like bringing an inviting dining experience to the hottest neighborhoods, and settling on the Liberty Station location seemed like natural fit."

With the opening of a new location came the necessity for a new website. Enter Alternative Strategies. Taking two previously separate sites, designated for the Hillcrest and Pacific Beach locations, Alternative Strategies created a single site to accommodate the "sprouting" Fig Tree family.
