Winning Email Marketing Strategies

With the recent boom in social media marketing, one may tend to believe that email marketing will soon become a less desirable option for reaching new and existing customers. Nothing could be further from the truth, as this tried-and-true method continues to be one of the most effective ways of growing your business. Here are two email marketing tips that are worth checking out:

It’s all About Timing.
Contrary to popular belief, studies indicate that early morning delivery actually has the lowest open rates. When you take a closer look, this makes sense since the first time most people check their email is when they arrive at work. As a result, many have gotten into the habit of deleting anything that seems irrelevant or unimportant in order to reduce clutter before starting their day.

With that in mind, it is also important to note that the vast majority of the population lives in the Eastern Standard Time zone. Unless you have the capability of segmenting your list by geographic location, it is best to target your send time when a majority of your recipients have already had their morning coffee and have a handle on what they perceive to be the most important tasks of their day.

As a general rule, the best time to send emails to customers is noon to about 1:00 p.m. The highest percentage of open rates tend to be seen in emails that are sent midday, when people may be able to relax a bit with their lunch boxes and their inboxes.

Make it a Great Day.
Mondays are considered to be the worst day to send a mass email if open rates are important for your business. The logic behind this revolves around the theory that people show up to work on Monday and are overwhelmed with the amount of emails they’ve received over the weekend. “Delete, delete, delete,” seems to have a cleansing effect, and perhaps a way to stave off the Monday morning blues. This particular theory has been backed up by numbers in many email marketing studies. So, unless you have a compelling reason to send an email blast on this day, avoid Monday sends!

Also to be avoided is a weekend send. Internet activity in general reduces on weekends. Many people spend more time with their families or enjoying the outdoors, and simply want to take a break from all of the enforced online time they experienced during the week. Almost every online metric category slips on the weekends, and that includes email opens. Midweek days appear to be the most fruitful for email marketing. Many studies indicate that emails sent on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday will yield the most successful results.

With a little planning, your email marketing efforts can reach your audience at the perfect time!
