Team Alt Strat Gives Back!

Though it’s been a busy summer for Alt Strat, our staff still finds time to give back to the causes that are important! It’s a blessing to work with co-workers and for a company that has such a big heart!

William Lopez: In addition to running a successful business, William donates his time by serving on the board of BLCI and chairing their marketing committee. Barrio Logan College Institute is located in Barrio Logan, a part of the San Diego community that is rich in both culture and pride, but that is grossly underserved. Located in a traditionally low-income community, BLCI promotes higher education as a ticket out of poverty. Working together with disadvantaged families, BLCI ensures that 100% of its students enroll in college. BLCI also helps students succeed in college programs across the nation!

Jenny/Tianna: The ladies of our social media department were able to volunteer this month at Stone Brewing Co.’s 19th Anniversary event, an annual event that donates 100% of its proceeds to local charities. Last year, the event raised over $250,000 dollars! Jenny and Tianna volunteered for the local charity, Fight ALD (Adrenoleukodystrophy), which supports families dealing with this genetic brain-degenerative disease and raises funds to help find a cure. Both Jenny and Tianna felt lucky to be a part of such a great event and were happy to donate their time to such a worthy cause!

EDLC tour at Alt Strat: BLCI also launched a new leadership program, the Executive Director’s Leadership Council (EDLC), where students learn the ins and outs of a nonprofit and the characteristics of effective leaders in order to create change in an organized fashion in their communities. Alt Strat had the privilege of hosting Jose Cruz, Executive Director at BLCI, as well as Francisco Martinez (President of EDLC) and eight of the students from EDLC. Members from each of our departments were able to give a tour to the students, walk them through what it’s like to work at a marketing agency, share how education helped shape each of their careers, and instill the importance of higher learning. What a great and intelligent group of students!

Paula: Our Media Relations Manager, Paula, recently went through some intensive training for the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP San Diego). TIP is a national program that started in San Diego. First-responders call various dispatch centers to have volunteers sent out to scenes of traumas such as accidents, fires and unexpected deaths, and TIP volunteers provide emotional and practical support to the survivors. In the minutes, hours and days after a tragedy, survivors are often in emotional shock and police and fire fighters are too busy to provide meaningful support. That's where the volunteers come in and stay until a neighbor or family member arrives and can take over.
