At the head of the class this month is Barrio Logan College Institute. On average, BLCI serves close to 200 students annually, from as early as third grade through college completion. Offering an enriching after-school program and encouraging ongoing family support, BLCI is making the dream of attending and graduating from college a reality for kids in some of San Diego’s most impoverished neighborhoods. BLCI is proud to announce that to date, 100% of graduates in the program have enrolled in colleges throughout the nation.

What makes BLCI unique is that it is family-focused, realizing the need for support from parents who have not gone to college themselves. Their early involvement also gets kids ready so that by that by the time they are high school seniors, students have learned what it takes to succeed at a four-year university. These college-bound kids are setting a new benchmark for success that will last for generations to come.

In recognition of all that BLCI is doing to elevate students on a very slim budget, Alt Strat has taken them under its wing, helping them to update their collateral materials and presence on the Web. Not only that, on Dec 10th Alt Strat coordinated a successful fundraiser for needy BLCI family members, which was hosted at Café Cantata with the help of Fig Tree Café.

Barrio Logan College Institute is truly in a class by itself. It is our hope to continue uplifting them as they make a remarkable difference in the lives of underrepresented students and their families, so that each child can go on to college and pursue a successful future.
