Barrel Republic

"The struggle is real" is a saying that definitely holds true for craft beer lovers curious to try new beers but hesitant to commit to a whole pint. Sure, you can ask for a sample and might think that the beer is good, but maybe not tasty enough to order an entire glass. And since all good beer drinkers resist wasting a drop of any precious brew, one could be stuck sipping on a beer that isn’t their cup of tea.

Enter Dave Pike, mastermind and owner of Barrel Republic. Pike came up with the most brilliant idea to date; a Freedom to Pour concept. Barrel Republic offers a better way to sample various craft beers without having to order by the pint. The idea is simple, open a tab, receive a wristband that must be scanned at each tap, and let the beer flow. Each tap features a screen that contains details about the beer (brewery, type of beer, ABV, and price per ounce) in an effort to provide curious drinkers with enough info to make a definitive decision – to pour, or not to pour. This exciting approach not only alleviates having to wait for a bartender, but allows customers a fun way to discover and pour as much, or as little beer as their craft beer-loving hearts desire! An added bonus is that the venue attracts like-minded individuals, a craft beer community that encourages guests to socialize with fellow enthusiasts. Of course, you can always ask one of the certified Cicerones that are on hand for their opinion about what to tap into.

Barrel Republic offers locations in Pacific Beach and Oceanside that boast over 40 craft beer taps. While both spots offer up weekly happy hour specials, Trivia Nights, and Tap Takeovers, the Oceanside location also serves upscale pub fare that includes a plethora of share plates, burgers and salads created by Chef Michael Brown. A Barrel Republic in Carlsbad is currently being developed, where guests can expect an outdoor beer garden along with a Chef Brown-inspired menu.

Thirsty? Stop by Barrel Republic in Pacific Beach or Oceanside today and enjoy the Freedom to Pour!
