The new kid on the block isn’t so new after all. Longtime North Park residents and business owners Steve and Patricia Billings have been a part of the business community for over a decade, and named their venture The Original 40 Brewing Company after the 40 acres of land purchased in 1893 by James Monroe Hartley that San Diegans now call North Park. This University Ave brewery explores the world of in-house brewed beer paired with an elaborate food menu, amidst a uniquely vintage venue design.
With a menu that pushes the brewpub status quo, this place isn’t quite like anything you’ve experienced in North Park. Constantly updated taps and special guest beers make The Original 40 a place to add to your ‘must visit regularly list,’ and the options for beer and food pairings will make sure every visit has something new to offer. Whether it’s the Passively Aggressive IPA with the Baby Back Adobo Ribs, or the Schlock Purist Pilsner with Citrus Salmon Gravlax for brunch – the combinations are excitably endless.
In the same way that what you enjoy at The Original 40 is always changing, where you indulge can be switched up, too. The venue has a sidewalk patio for people watching, a dining room for sit-downs with friends and family, a bar to get to know your local brewer, and a back patio for the intimate conversations. With an open-air concept that runs through the brewery, The Original 40 celebrates the neighborhood it serves.
Serving Happy Hour, dinner, and brunch on weekends – The Original 40 invites you to come and experience a North Park brewpub done right!
