The Pioneer


Alternative Strategies has kicked off public relations, marketing, graphic design and social media efforts for The Pioneer BBQ restaurant. We are excited to be working with Chef Hanis and his team of experts, who are bringing a culinary twist and innovative spin to classic BBQ. We’ve scheduled, coordinated and attended a photoshoot to capture new pictures of their menu options, venue and Chef Hanis. We have already started with redesigns to the website, menu and additional graphics.

Opened in June of 2018, The Pioneer has raised the bar for irresistible BBQ, right here in San Diego! Owners Willie DePascale and longtime friend Chef Hanis Cavin assembled an unrivaled team who offer a full rack of specialties including smoked meat combos, brisket-topped burgers, the Porko Sando and a tangy twist on several barbecue classics.

The Pioneer offers 14 beer taps and an extensive beverage program with a broad range of cocktails, like their Frosé, featuring Absolut Vodka, frozen rosé and organic strawberry and peach, and their signature “Pioneer” cocktail, featuring Maker's Mark, cognac, maple syrup, angostura and black walnut bitters, and applewood smoke.

The Pioneer offers weekly specials for customers to enjoy, such as Frosé Fridays, a Tuesday Night Family Menu, and a Prime Rib Special available every Sunday after 5 p.m. They are located at 8622 Lake Murray Blvd. in San Diego.
