Locally owned, family run and sourced from agave plants in Jalisco, Mexico, Alternative Strategies is thrilled to be behind the branding and promotion of CaliFino. The premium grade, 100% blue agave craft tequila has been custom created to achieve the best taste, scent and quality.

CaliFino’s story began more than 40 years ago, when Don Jose Luna made the journey to Mexico’s Los Altos de Jalisco, known as “The Highlands,” back in 1975. He befriended some of the top tequila producers there, then passed what he learned down to his sons (primarily Tio Jose), and this passion continued with the Luna family for years. The conversation to launch CaliFino began after word spread about the opportunity to create a signature brand, and from there, three tequila formulas were born. CaliFino’s Añejo, Extra Añejo and Reposado are all aged in American white oak, lightly toasted barrels. The agave heads, known as the Piña, are slowly cooked in a stone oven. And each spirit has been carefully produced to be embraced by tequila enthusiasts across the country.

CaliFino’s Reposado is aged 12 months, offering a golden, light-amber color with a fresh oak barrel scent and hints of the slowly cooked agave. Tastes of citrus and hints of vanilla will linger, while a smooth finish and creamy texture complete the sipping experience. The Añejo is aged 24 to 36 months and is a deep, golden amber in color. Hints of citrus and caramel make this a velvety tasting tequila, with a warm, full-bodied texture. Aged for seven years, the Extra Añejo is the darkest in color, with a rich amber hue. The slowly cooked agave results in a sweet caramel taste with lingering hints of chocolate.

CaliFino tequilas are manufactured in Mexico, offering an artisanal and locally-sourced product, from the agave to the bottle’s components. Each bottle is individually hand-wrapped with rope in varying tints of color, representing the aging process for each spirit. CaliFino is delighted to kick off their custom tequilas in San Diego, with plans to expand to other markets in the near future.
