New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are something that are notorious for being broken. And while the challenge of sticking with those resolutions often wears us down, remember you made those promises to yourself because the end result will provide you with an even better year. So to make your 2011 the best year yet we spoke with a few of our clients to get their perspectives on creating and maintaining some unbreakable New Year’s Resolutions.

Firstly, see it as a goal that is attainable. Never put the unnecessary pressure on yourself to attain something that is unrealistic.

Secondly, I personally never make a NY resolution. I attempt to place them on myself on a daily. Living in the moment is something that I strive for. Its difficult but its real. This way, I can approach it right away and not make give it more power than deserved.

Call me a party-pooper or what have you, but I've never been a fan of NY's resolutions.

New Year’s resolutions bring joy and pain. It is exciting to think about new starts such as getting serious about losing those extra pounds or spending less on "stuff" we don’t need and saving money. The discomfort comes because we know it's never easy to do for longer than a week. The best of us can last a month, but typically we only make it one or two days before giving up.

Success means KISS "Keep It Short and Simple" In 2011, make only 1-2 resolutions. Approach each resolution by taking baby steps. For example, if your resolution is to exercise every day, rather than joining a gym and spending time there 24/7, commit to walking 5-10 minutes each day. Easy! After a month, bump it up to 10-15 minutes or substitute riding a bike or yoga. Make 2011 the year that you find your goals last till 2012! Short. Simple. Smiles!

Fitness Resolution tips from Omar Banghart – Founder of Synergy Personal Training

  • Hire a personal trainer! Having someone to hold you accountable, to motivate you and to steer you in the right direction with your health and fitness goals is invaluable. And don’t give me you can’t afford it!!! You can afford to eat out 3 or 4 times a week and put garbage into your body right? Eliminate that crap and make cuts where you have to and hire a trainer even for a short period of time to steer you in the right direction.

  • Skip the next fad diet and infomercial exercise gadgets! Fad diets come and go each season, and almost every single one can sabotage your health. Make a commitment to ignore these completely, and focus on healthy eating as a lifestyle instead. Don’t waste your money on infomercial exercise gadgets, they don’t work, most and will end up collecting dust in your closet after only a few attempts using them. I’m sure you’ll spot them at every yard sale!

  • Write down your goals. Write them down and put them in places in your house and work place so you can see them every day. Seeing your goals in your face like this will keep you from grabbing the bowl of candy, eating fast food and skipping your workout.
