How to Write a Successful Newsletter
By Antoine Didienne Social Media Lead

Newsletters are fantastic tools businesses use to get the word out about services and events, as they provide valuable information for current and potential customers. If you already have a newsletter, or are thinking about starting one, we’ve gathered helpful information together to assure that your next newsletter is a success.

What to avoid when writing a newsletter:
If you are not willing to commit to sending out a monthly newsletter- don’t start one at all, as people may see your lack of follow-through as a reason to mistrust you and your business.

Don’t put too much information in your newsletter; you might overwhelm your audience.
Only include information that is of interest to your readers.

Don’t make your newsletter a sales pitch. Instead, offer new services and specials as well as providing your customers with valuable information.

What to do when writing a newsletter:
Ask yourself who you are writing the newsletter to, and the benefit you hope your readers will gain.
Do some background research on your market- does your competitor have a newsletter? If so, what can you provide in your newsletter that the competition doesn’t?

Keep it simple; an easy design and images will add a fun tone to your newsletter and keep a reader’s attention.
Make the newsletter’s name memorable and unique
Make the content of your newsletter informative, yet fun, so that your readers look forward to receiving it every month.

Additional ideas or recommendations:
Consider featuring an advice column written by a veteran in your industry.

Publish a compiled list of informative Web sites that you recommend.

Include a fun idea to help your customers and clients get involved, such as featuring a regular spotlight column about one of your customers/clients each month.

Post a question asking your customers to respond and include the best answers in the next edition.

Write tips and how-to articles from time to time.

Think of the newsletters you enjoy reading and don’t be afraid to pull elements from a variety of sources in order to create a great newsletter for your reader. Remember, the goal of your newsletter is to inform your current and potential clients/customers about what is new with your business to and provide them with valuable information. Have fun each month and be creative!
